As an independent agency with over 30 years of experience, we shop your coverage across multiple carriers to find the best combination of price, coverage, and reliability. And unlike captive agents, we're not locked into one company's products.

From startups to established contractors, we work with New York businesses of all sizes and industries.

Our Services
Commercial Coverage We Offer
Everything your New York business needs, from one trusted independent agent.
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

General Liability

Protect your business from third-party bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury claims. Essential for any business that interacts with customers or the public.

๐Ÿ‘ท

Workers Compensation

Required for any NY business with employees. We specialize in WC โ€” including audit representation, classification reviews, and EMR analysis to keep your rates fair.

๐Ÿš›

Commercial Auto

Coverage for business-owned vehicles, fleets, and employee-driven vehicles used for work. Personal auto policies don't cover business use โ€” don't leave this gap open.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Business Property

Protect your building, equipment, inventory, and business contents from fire, theft, and other covered perils. We ensure your values are current and your policy actually pays.

๐Ÿ’ผ

Professional Liability

Also known as E&O (errors & omissions) insurance. Critical for consultants, contractors, accountants, healthcare providers, and any business that gives professional advice.

โ˜‚๏ธ

Commercial Umbrella

Adds a second layer of liability protection above your underlying policies. When a large claim exceeds your primary limits, umbrella coverage steps in to protect your assets.

Industries We Serve in New York

From the South Shore to the North Fork, we work with New York businesses across every industry.
๐Ÿ”จ

Contractors & Trades

General contractors, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, painters, and more. We know contractor insurance inside and out.

Medical offices, consultants, accountants, real estate professionals. Professional liability is our specialty.

Real Estate & Property

Landlords, property managers, HOAs, and real estate investors. Comprehensive coverage for your portfolio.

Commercial Insurance FAQ

Do I really need general liability insurance as a sole proprietor?
Yes โ€” in most cases. Even as a sole proprietor, if you work on client property, interact with the public, or provide any service, you face liability exposure. Many clients and contracts now require proof of GL insurance before you can even start a job. A claim without coverage could wipe out your personal assets.
Why is commercial insurance more expensive in New York?
New York has strict labor laws (including Labor Law 240/241 for construction), high litigation rates, and dense population โ€” all of which drive up liability claims. NY also mandates workers compensation for any business with employees, which adds to total insurance costs. Working with an independent agent who shops multiple carriers is the best way to manage these costs.
Can I bundle multiple commercial policies together?
Often yes. A Business Owner's Policy (BOP) bundles general liability and business property into one affordable package โ€” typically at a discount vs. buying separately. However, some businesses (construction, certain contractors) may not qualify for a BOP and need standalone policies. We'll show you every option.
How often should I review my business insurance?
At minimum, annually at renewal. But also whenever you: hire employees, purchase new equipment, add vehicles, expand your services, start a new contract, or experience significant revenue growth. Coverage that was adequate two years ago may leave you seriously underinsured today.
What's the difference between a captive agent and an independent agent?
A captive agent (like a State Farm or Allstate agent) can only offer products from one company. An independent agent like Comp Matters Inc. works with multiple carriers โ€” meaning we shop the market for the best combination of coverage and price for your specific business. For commercial insurance, this distinction can mean thousands of dollars in savings.
